Will I need to replace my CorrectDeck deck boards if the substructure needs to be replaced?

In this case, you will not need to purchase new CorrectDeck decking materials. If the substructure is deteriorating and needs to be replaced, all you will need to do is unscrew the fastenators (or the screws…depending on how you originally installed the CorrectDeck product), remove the CorrectDeck boards, replace the complete substructure and reattach the CorrectDeck boards.

What type of lumber should I use for framing my project?

We always suggest that our customers choose KDAT stamped framing lumber. This wood will be straighter and will also be lighter and easier to handle, and won't shrink and expand as much during and after the deck project. The reason why we make this suggestion is that we have seen a large decline in the quality of treated wood in the marketplace in the last 3 years, and it causes us frequent complaints and problems. The primary change has been a cost-saving move to skipping the KDAT (kiln-dried after treatment) step. This results in wood that twists and shrinks a lot after the deck frame is nailed together; resulting problems are often blamed on the decking surface.

What type of fastener should I use for the CorrectDeck Channeled boards?

The CorrectDeck Fastenator can be applied with staples or trim head screws. Pre-loaded Fastenators (with #7 x 2 ¼” trim head screws) can really speed up installation time.

What is the shrinkage and expansion rate for CorrectDeck boards?

CorrectDeck expands and contracts less than most composite and PVC decking due to its polypropylene based composition. Use our Deck Spacing Calculator to address end to end gapping.

Can CorrectDeck be installed over a concrete patio?

You may install CorrectDeck over an existing concrete slab. However, there are a few things that you need to do prior to installation.

1. CorrectDeck requires a minimum of 1 1/2" spacing under the decking. You can use 2x4 laying on the side as the frame and stringers. The more air flow and water drainage spacing the better.

2. Due to the rigidity of CorrectDeck, when you are installing over concrete you will need to make your frame "Floating". Do NOT anchor the frame into the concrete in any way. The reason for this is because with the small air space under the deck, any ice and water that accumulates under the deck will want to expand and push on the bottom of the deck. A "Floating" frame will allow for the deck to move without putting excessive pressure on the deck boards causing the deck to fail.

3. Account for proper drainage. Keep in mind that water and possible debris from trees, dirt, grass etc. will find its way under your deck. proper water flow channels should be put in your framing to allow that to come out.

What should I do with my CorrectDeck scraps and what is the proper way to dispose of them?

CorrectDeck scrap pieces can be used for a variety of homes projects such as benches, shelves, planters (there are no damaging chemicals to plants), sand boxes, raised bed edging, or compost bin. CorrectDeck does not provide any installation instructions for any scrap applications. CorrectDeck is not recommended for any structural applications. CorrectDeck does not contain any toxic material and can be disposed with normal construction materials.

What spacing is required between CorrectDeck boards?

1/8” spacing is required between CorrectDeck boards, but the Channeled hidden fastening system of installation automatically establishes the 1/8” gap. Use our Deck Spacing Calculator to address end to end gapping. Watch CorrectDeck Channeled Installation movie

Can I overhang CorrectDeck over the edge of my deck?

CorrectDeck allows for overhang, but this should not exceed 4 inches.

Can CorrectDeck create a watertight surface?

CorrectDeck is not designed to be installed in a way that water would pool on it. 1/8” gapping is needed for proper drainage between boards. If you want to create a dry area beneath your deck for storage or extra living space, we recommend using Rain Escape Under Deck Drainage System.

Is there a way to prevent weed growth from under CorrectDeck?

CorrectDeck does not offer any of material to prevent weed growth from under you deck; please visit you local home & garden store for more information.
