Be sure to lay all the boards out on the deck prior to fastening them down. The color consistency of CorrectDeck is very good but the human eye is very discerning. There can be some very minor shading differences from board to board or lot to lot. The direction of the woodgrain embossing can also have a slight effect on the perceived color – choose the look you prefer by pointing all the ‘cathedrals’ in the emboss the same direction or alternating them.

1.

Screw down the outer edge of the first deck board every 16". Pre-drill if within 3/4" of any edge. (Photo 1)

2.

Place a Fastenator in groove of the CorrectDeck Channeled board centered over joist. (Photo 2)

3.

Drive a 7/16" x 2" staple through the line in the center of the Fastenator at a 90° angle. (Photo 3)

4.

Starting at one end, slide your next Channeled board onto the exposed Fastenator.
Install a single Fastenator at one end on the out-board edge to hold the board in place. (Photo 4)

5.

While standing on the new board, pound it tight with a dead blow hammer and repeat step 2. (Photo 5)

6.

Install the last deck board by using screws through the outer edge. (Photo 6)

Fastenators are available with a pilot hole. (Click to Enlarge) Fastenators can be screwed into the joist in instances where space does not permit the use of a staple gun. This may be adjacent to the building, around corners or by a post or railing. Although the use of pneumatic staples typically is faster, all Fastenators can be screwed in place. We recommend a high quality #7 x 2-1/2" trim head screw.

HELPFUL HINTS

  • For additional information on fastening options for CorrectDeck, please visit: www.swansecure.com

  • A dead blow hammer or heavy rubber mallet may sometimes be needed to tap the Fastenator into the slot. A dead blow hammer, rubber mallet or BoWrench can also be used to help secure the next Channeled™ board into place. Stand on top of the board you’re installing when setting into Fastenators.

  • Some installers use a chisel or screwdriver to hold the Fastenator in place when stapling it to the joist.

  • In the case of a low joist, the Fastenator may need to be shimmed to seat in the groove.

  • Take a measurement of the total width of the installed boards to check for parallel every 3-4 courses as you’re installing.

  • Store Fastenators indoors before use. Fastenators install best between 40° and 80°.

  • Many people picture-frame Channeled decks. To make boards for picture-framing, rip the grooved edge off and rout the cut edge with a 1/4" round bit.

  • Fastenators may be installed with #7 x 2-1/2" trim head screws or stainless staples, available at leading lumber yards.

Stapling for Channeled

Any staple gun that shoots a 7/16 x 2" or 1/2 x 2" staple will work: it is preferable to have the safety towards the rear of the gun rather than the front. A safety (bounce-fire) towards the front of the gun tends to hit on the board rather than the Fastenator, making it harder to bury staples.

So far we have used the following Staplers with good results. This does not mean that another stapler will not work. If the safety is in behind the nose, or telescoping style, and your gun shoots 7/16" x 2" or 1/2" x 2" staples, it will work.
